Titan V volts out the Xp | Nvidia launches new 'Volta' based GPU

"The most powerful GPU ever created" is not an uncommon term, Nvidia uses it all the time, but this time, its use is substantially accurate. Nvidia has just launched a new beast in the arena called the Titan V. This is the first GPU based on the new Volta architecture (damn! who names them!). The GPU giant says that it is meant for "AI and Deep Learning", and it is a very suitable statement to justify a price tag of $2999. The Pascal based Titan Xp which costs a whooping $1200, now seems as a cheaper 'alternative'.
The latest iteration in the pascal based 10-series GPU, the GTX 1080ti was launched not even half an year ago. It seems as if Nvidia themselves want to age their products (nothing conclusive though). Talking about the specs of this new-born beast, we have a performance improvement of 9-times over the last generation. Just imagine a card delivering 9-times the performance of the Titan Xp! This happens because of 5120 cuda cores and 640 'tensor' cores. To put things in perspective, the titan Xp had 3840 cuda cores. The base clock is of 1200MHz and it boosts upto 1455MHz. The processor code-named GV100 is based on a 12nm lithography.
On the memory side, we have 12GB of stacked HBM2 (High Bandwidth Memory 2) memory that functions at 1.7GBPS with a bandwidth of 652GBPS on a massive 3072-bit bus. The older one had a slower GDDR5X memory (it is very fast compared to any other card). The TDP remains the same at 250W and it needs 8+6 pin power connector to unleash havoc. Now those specs seem really impressive but what is more impressive is the fact that the company claims 110 Teraflops of power (run for your money AMD). The power requirements suggest that the card has improved efficiency.
On the exterior, it has a new gold paint-job on the same old angular shroud. Yeah and it would occupy 2 slots in your case if you decide to buy them. The overwhelming performance improvement offers a taste of what to expect from the next series of volta based gaming GPUs, let me tell you, it's gonna be sweet.
